Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we don’t, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 11 July 2026

This policy explains what information Distance to Planets (distancetoplanets.com, "the site", "we", "us") collects when you visit, and how it is used. The short version: the site does not require an account, does not ask you for personal details, and does not sell your data.

Information we collect

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics (via Google's gtag.js) to understand overall traffic — how many people visit, which sections and calculators are used, roughly which country or region visitors come from, and what kind of device or browser they use. This is aggregate, statistical information, not information tied to your name or identity.

Local storage and cookies

The site stores a small amount of data directly in your browser (using local storage, not cookies) to remember preferences such as light or dark mode and to cache recently fetched data — for example, the live satellite, aircraft, or rocket-launch feeds — so pages load faster on a repeat visit. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. Google Analytics separately sets its own cookies to distinguish visitors; see Google's policy linked below for details.

Information you send us directly

If you email distancetoplanets@proton.me, we receive whatever you choose to include in that message — typically your email address and the content of your note. This is used only to respond to you and is not added to any marketing list.

Third-party data sources

Several live features on the site pull data from external, third-party services in real time — for example, satellite tracking data, live aircraft position data, and rocket launch schedule data. These requests are made to show you current information and are governed by the respective third party's own privacy practices. We do not control what those services log on their end.

Advertising

This site may display advertising served by Google AdSense and, in future, other third-party ad networks. These networks may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites ("interest-based" or "personalized" advertising).

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also review how Google uses information from sites that use its services at Google's Partner Sites policy, and opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, ads served on this site (where applicable) are subject to consent obtained through a certified consent management platform, in line with Google's EU user consent policy.

How information is used

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
